The local chapter of the National Honor Society is a service organization founded upon the premise that one should use one's talents, skills and knowledge for the betterment of others. Students are selected for membership because they have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership and service to school and community. Meetings of the Brookfield Chapter are held twice a month after school. The officers of the National Honor Society are: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Member obligations include: collecting for the American Cancer Society, Red Cross Bloodmobile, Tutoring Service, etc. These activities are conducted annually.
Academically eligible students who wish to be considered for membership in the National Honor Society are requested to obtain application forms from the Adviser during the third marking period in their junior or senior year. A National Honor Society Selection Committee composed of faculty members will meet to review applications and to designate successful applicants. Detailed selection criteria may be obtained from the NHS faculty adviser. In the event that academic misconduct becomes an issue, (e.g., cheating, etc.), and a student’s character or integrity is raised, that student will not be invited to join this organization regardless of other qualifications. Members of the National Honor Society are required to perform 8 hours of community service per marking period.
New members of the National Honor Society are inducted in May.
