Recent research on school effectiveness informs us that provision of a "guaranteed and viable curriculum is the school-level factor with the most impact on student achievement" (Marzano, 2003). To this end, the Brookfield Public Schools engages in a five year cycle of curriculum revision designed to tie our curriculum to state standards and grade level expectations.
Curriculum frameworks for each area of instruction are developed by Brookfield staff to align State standards with local philosophy, goals and objectives. These documents, which are approved by the Board of Education, present the framework for the staff-developed units of instruction. Our instructional units, with common assessments, articulate district expectations for teaching and learning by grade level and subject, thus aligning expectation with practice.
