UPDATE L- Increase in COVID-19 - Hybrid Learning for Next Week

Dear Families, Faculty and Staff,

Brookfield has experienced a significant spike in COVID-19 positivity over the past two weeks. Brookfield’s COVID status is now RED.  After reviewing Brookfield’s current health metrics with our medical advisor and both local and regional public health officials, the Brookfield schools will remain on a Hybrid schedule for next week (November 9 - November 13). As a result, the Grades K-8 plan to return to 100% in person for 5 days per week is postponed.

The leading COVID health indicator has trended upward from 10.9 cases per 100,000 last week to a positive rate of 19.3 cases per 100,000. This statistic is what places Brookfield in the RED zone.  The increase in positive COVID cases in the community triggers the evaluation process  for our school district’s learning model. Our health data are in the range where the Hybrid learning model must be implemented.

As a reminder, kindergarten students will remain in their current Hybrid model. Kindergarten students will continue attending 4 days per week either in the morning or in the afternoon, depending on their cohort, with Wednesday being a remote learning day for all students. This will enable our youngest learners to continue benefiting from being with peers and face-to-face with their teachers on a daily basis.

As planned, Brookfield High School will continue on its Hybrid schedule. The remaining fall athletics schedule will continue this weekend and through next week.

Wednesday will remain a remote learning day for the entire district.

The Brookfield Public Schools will remain on a Hybrid schedule next week (11/09/2020 through 11/13/2020) due to the spike in COVID-19 cases.

Connecticut health data is now updated each Thursday evening. Therefore, we will be in touch next Friday afternoon, following regular consultation with our health advisory team, with an update on plans for our model for the week of November 16-20.

We understand the challenges these plan changes present, and we thank you, in advance, for your patience, understanding, and cooperation.

Please stay healthy and safe.
