Update P- BPS Transition to Remote Learning

November 17, 2020

Dear Families, Faculty and Staff,

Dr. Sullivan, the Brookfield Public Health Director and our Medical Advisor, Dr. Davis, have just reviewed the newly evolving regional public health trend data. Based upon their independent reviews, they both recommend that the district transition to full remote learning. Additionally, Dr. Sullivan shared that there is an anticipated uptick in positive cases of COVID after the Thanksgiving holiday. I will be following their recommendation that the Brookfield Public Schools transition to full remote teaching and learning beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, November 18, 2020 through Friday, December 4, 2020.

Remote learning will continue everyday with the intention of returning to the Hybrid Model on Monday, December 7th.

During this period of Remote Learning, we will continue to monitor and evaluate the health data, review our staffing needs, and consult with Dr. Sullivan and Dr. Davis. We will inform you of any changes to the above plan should the need arise.

While we have no evidence of in-school transmission, the decision to transition to full remote learning is driven by the pattern of rapidly increasing community spread. This spread is occurring within families and youth sports. Today, the CIAC postponed winter sports until January 19th. Additionally, we have significant concerns in regard to adequately covering quarantined staff who are critical to the operation of the schools.

Faculty, staff and students should be sure to have their devices with them when they leave school today. These devices will be required to engage in remote learning.

Thank you for your continued cooperation, patience, and support. Please know that we are doing everything we can to keep our students, staff and community safe.

Should you have any questions please email askcovid19bps@brookfieldps.org.

Sincerely,

Dr. John W. Barile

Superintendent
