Hand in Hand, the volunteer literacy tutoring program at Huckleberry Hill Elementary School, seeks new volunteers. Hand in Hand tutors work as partners with teachers and parents to help children become successful readers and writers. Training based on "Help America Read: A Handbook for Volunteers" begins in late August and continues throughout the school year.
Each volunteer tutor meets once a week during the school day with one child identified by his/her teachers as needing help with reading and writing.
Hand in Hand's multigenerational literacy tutors include PTO members, business people, high school students, parents, grandparents and retirees.
