Beyond the Classroom

Whisconier Middle School recognizes the importance of providing students with multiple opportunities for success both in and out of the classroom.  As such, the numerous extra-curricular sports, clubs and organizations we offer are intended to enhance our students’ overall positive experiences during their four years at WMS.

Fall Sports

  • Cross Country (Grades 6-8)
  • Boys Soccer (Grades 6-8)
  • Girls Soccer (Grades 6-8)
  • Girls Field Hockey (Grades 6-8)

Practices are held twice a week and the teams compete against area schools.

Winter Sports

  • Boys Varsity Basketball (Grades 6-8) 
  • Girls Varsity Basketball (Grades 6-8)

Spring Sports

  • Girls Track (Grades 6-8)
  • Boys Track (Grades 6-8)

Intramurals (Grades 5-8)

Intramurals are held Monday-Thursday with a different grade level meeting each day. A variety of activities are offered throughout the year including flag football, soccer, yoga, softball, badminton, volleyball, etc. The main focus of the intramural program is for students to have fun!

Student Council (Grades 5-8)

Student Council is a great place for students to come together to share ideas, interests and concerns with one another to better the school and the community in which they live. Through student council, students can learn to develop leadership skills that will help them succeed in and around the school. Through various events, within the school year, students learn to give back to the community and learn that a little kindness can go a long way.

Peer Mediation (Grades 5-8)

The Leadership / Peer Mediation Program is designed for students who wish to assume a leadership role in student affairs.The program will focus on preparing participants to become more effective student leaders who are able to affect positive change at WMS.Leadership / Peer Mediation participants may also have opportunities to work with student council members on various school and community-related activities.addition, participants will learn the necessary skills to properly mediate conflicts between students at WMS.(Peer mediation is a conflict resolution technique that teaches students to peacefully resolve disputes with peers.)After an initial half-day orientations meeting, participants will meet formally once a month for training and activity planning.

Band/Chorus (Grades 5-8)

Band and Chorus meets during the students’ corrective time, and individual band lessons are given in addition to the corrective time meetings. Students perform in two concerts, Winter and Spring.

Math Counts (Grades 6-8)

MathCounts is a supplementary math program which seeks to encourage interest, achievement, and excellence among middle school students.Studentsweekly throughout the school year.It is from the participating that team is selected. The team represents Whisconier Middle School at the regional state.

Science Club (Grades 5-8)

The Science Club members will further their understanding of science at Whisconier and in the Brookfield community.

Chess Club (Grades 5-8)

The Chess Club is open to all students (advanced to beginner) and meets on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:45.

Literary Magazine (Grades 5-8)

Students submit a variety of writings from poetry to short stories to be published at the end of the year.

Student Newspaper (Grades 5-8)

Students report on the current events and happenings at Whisconier and publish a quarterly newspaper.


The yearbook committee consists of a select group of hardworking and creative 8th grade students.  These students are in charge of every aspect of creating the WMS yearbook including advertising sales, design, photography, and distribution. The end result is a book of memories that the WMS community can be proud of.

Peer Tutoring (Grades 5-8)

5th and 6th grade students receive extra help with their studies from 7th and 8th grade students, and 7th and 8th grade students receive extra help from high school students. Peer tutoring meets Mondays and Wednesdays.

The Gardening Club (Grades 5-8)

With gardening tools in hand, the Gardening Club cultivates and beautifies the courtyard at WMS.  are held on Thursdays after school until 4 P.M. during Spring and Fall. All WMS, students, and parents welcome to visit the courtyard - a very special place at WMS.
